The ‘Laboratorio del Movimento’ was set up in January 2005.
It is a centre that investigates and experiments with postural
systems.
As its name indicates, the Laboratorio is equipped to
develop research techniques into posture and physical wellbeing
through movement.
The disciplines taught are exclusively tailored to improving physical appearance and posture in relation to each individual’s specific physical problems. Everyone assumes certain positions when walking, sitting, lying down and carrying out everyday activities, often giving way to incorrect movements and posture that become habitual and uncomfortable. The errors need to be identified and corrected.
The ‘Laboratorio del Movimento’ distinguishes itself from gyms and dance schools in that weight machines are not used like in the gym and a glossy, artistic result is not strived for like in dance schools. The results obtained guarantee a toned body and the harmony and confidence that is transmitted through dance.
Every discipline taught is based on a key principal in relation to the body that will improve the postural alignment, muscles and articulation through movement. This will give way to a full physical recovery and also improve the individual’s body awareness, which often leads to taking more pride in ones physical appearance.
Without the stress of the gym the ‘Laboratorio del Movimento’ wants, above all, to be a calm environment, where one can express oneself, surrounded by nature, in an apartment on the banks of the river Po, in a historical building belonging to the ‘Medici del Vascello’ (a noble Italian family). It is decorated with bright colours which help create a relaxing environment.

Benedetta Sciaulino has a degree in History of Theatre and Dance from the Faculty of Arts in Turin, where she graduated on 27 March 2003. Her dissertation was about exercise based on the postural movement of the body and modern dance from where it derives. She carried out her research in this area, using historical-theoretical methods as well as practical experience. |
After having studied classical dance with Anna Sagna at the Bella Hutter School throughout her teens, she attended the Professional Academy of Theatre Dance (SAT) in Turin for two years from 1998 to 2000, during which she decided that she would only attend gymnastic-dance lessons held by Sophie Urbain, who trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School.
Immediately after graduating she decided to take advantage of her knowledge of the Pilates method at the Belsize Studio and the Laban School in London, where she attended courses
In order to study the classic and original Pilates method she moved to Boston for a year in 2004, where she attended Clare Dumphry’s Studio, principal Peak Pilates® Master Trainer and ex-pupil of Romana Kryzanowska. She also studied at Romana’s own NY Studio.
In 2005 she decided to return to Turin and open the Laboratorio. The Laboratorio provides the classic Pilates method relative to the postural set up of the body, but other courses are foreseen in which the various disciplines along Benedetta Sciaulino’s formative journey will find expression.
Benedetta has maintained contact with the school in Boston and continuously updates her training and her studies with regular trips to the Peak headquarters in Colorado, New York and Boston. In November 2006 she was made Peak Senior Trainer, achieving the Peak Pilates® certification in Italy in collaboration with Ernie Prevoo, Linder Foster, and initially also with Life Fitness. Based on this she organizes Pilates method courses.
